Not just a gym.

Right you've found the website of the only school of physical culture in Australia. You could call it a gym, but if you sling bells properly, breathe properly, and enjoy training bare foot, bare chested (not a requirement) and surrounded by wicked blokes, then you probably aren't doing it at a typical gym.

Located at a private studio in Thornlie, head coach and principal Alex Torres can prepare you for any of the military, LE, or FR roles. Additionally, he can teach you how to move, breathe and walk (you've probably been doing it wrong this whole time) even if you've never set foot in a school of physical culture before (you haven't).

Wrestling/grappling is an artform as old as man itself. The grit, aggression and intensity that can be expressed while practicing grappling arts simply cannot be recreated with any other martial art and it maintain it’s relative safety. Physical and mental toughness is developed on the wrestling mats which is why every student at the school is encouraged to learn how to wrestle.

The school draws inspiration from old school strength practices and combines them with new age science to bring together a complete physical culture, encouraging you to improve your lifestyle with movement, strength and combat and not just treat it like a chore. If you're a dad and want to model an active lifestyle for your kids, if you’re an athlete and want to start taking your strength and mobility seriously, or if you’re Joe Bloggs that just needs a community to guide you, this is the place.

About the coach

As an infantry soldier, Alex had thorough experience in maintaining his own physical and mental readiness as a result of constant gymnastics, acrobatic and athletic training throughout his adolescence which saw him lead the physical and mental preparations of any unit he was posted to.

He has since expanded his knowledge and experience as an apprentice of numerous strength and conditioning coaches, specifically through the Strongfirst organisation, achieving the SFG2 instructor standard. As well as competing in RX individual, team and pairs divisions in multiple Australian states in the sport of Crossfit.

A competitive brown belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu, amateur MMA fighter, boxer and combatives instructor in the Australian Army, Alex has an excellent understanding of what is required to improve your performance as a combat sports athlete, tactical athlete or first responder and can improve your technical knowledge on the mats as well as with the kettlebell. He has achieved instructor certifications in Paul Cale's Kinetic Fighting system and continues to educate active soldiers in close combat as well as coach high level MMA fighters in their strength, conditioning and mobility domains.

The bottom line is, when it comes to passion, enthusiasm, and credibility, Alex is one of a kind.
